Job Title: Scheduler (Broadcast / Programming Scheduler)

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Purpose

  • The Scheduler acts as the link between Programming, Production, Traffic/Sales, and Master Control, keeping the transmission log accurate and conflict-free.
  • This role ensures that programmes, promos, and commercial breaks air in the correct sequence and at the correct time, in line with editorial strategy, sales commitments, and Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) regulations.
  • The Scheduler is responsible for planning, compiling, and maintaining HipTV's on-air transmission schedule and daily programme log.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor the schedule in real time and manage last-minute changes — breaking news, technical issues, or content substitutions — with minimal disruption to transmission.
  • Coordinate with Production to confirm content is delivered, quality-checked, and ready ahead of scheduled air dates.
  • Ensure all scheduling complies with the NBC Code and internal content standards, including watershed/content classification rules.
  • Build and maintain the daily, weekly, and monthly transmission schedule and programme log across all HipTV channels/platforms.
  • Liaise with the Sales/Traffic team to slot commercials and sponsored content according to contracted spots, avoiding clashes or under-delivery.
  • Maintain accurate as-run logs and reconcile them against the planned schedule for reporting and billing purposes.
  • Flag scheduling conflicts, gaps, or repeat-heavy periods early, and propose adjustments to optimise viewership and ad inventory.
  • Support the Head of Programming with scheduling data and performance insights for planning decisions.
  • Prepare and circulate the schedule/EPG (Electronic Programme Guide) information to internal teams, listings providers, and digital/social platforms.
  • Input and update programme, promo, and commercial placements in the traffic/playout system, ensuring accuracy of durations and sequencing.
  • Maintain organised records of rights windows, repeat limits, and licence expiry dates for acquired content.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with scheduling or database software.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication, Media Studies, Broadcasting, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years' experience in a broadcast scheduling, traffic, or programming role within a TV station or media company.
  • Working knowledge of broadcast traffic/playout systems (e.g., WideOrbit, iTX, or similar) is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with the NBC Broadcasting Code and general content compliance standards in Nigeria.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy under time pressure.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple, simultaneous deadlines.
  • Calm, solution-focused approach to last-minute changes and live-transmission pressure.
  • Clear communication and cross-functional coordination skills.
  • Basic understanding of audience viewing patterns and how scheduling affects ratings.
