We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Nutrition and Health Officer

Location: Sokoto

Key Responsibilities

  • Regularly follow up with the teams on the progress of the activity, challenges, and guide necessary actions;
  • Fill the health evolution reports every month for the LGA and share them with the line manager for consolidation;
  • Support government health workers in preparing the integrated diseases surveillance report, monthly facility-based DHIS2 report;
  • Ensure rational use of all medical equipment and stationery in health facilities;
  • Ensure availability of essential nutrition & health supplies in assigned health facilities, including data tools;
  • Liaise with nutrition and health assistants for accessing the community support group and health facility database regularly and updating the overall health facility-based activities;
  • Ensure that specific monitoring findings are reported to the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager with potential solutions;
  • Ensure that Nutrition and Health Assistants are using the standard monitoring checklist during visits to health facilities;
  • Support the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager in facilitating and organizing technical trainings for health workers (including on LMIS, HMIS);
  • Develop a monthly monitoring and supervision plan for the LGA and share it with the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager;
  • Conduct ongoing capacity assessment of health workers on CMAM service delivery, IMCI service delivery, reproductive health service delivery, vaccination, etc., and review the training needs and/or coaching needs;
  • Identify gaps for WASH in health facilities and inform the Nutrition and Health Programme manager regularly;
  • Monitor for appropriate documentation–IMCI and CMAM treatment registers/tools, individual child growth monitoring cards, ANC/PNC cards and delivery registers;
  • Identify financial requirements, logistic needs, and HR support in reference to the work plan and inform the NHSM to prepare a budget forecast;
  • Support the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager in organizing the LGA-based coordination meeting;
  • Participate with the M&E team in the supervision of data collection for nutrition and health assessments;
  • Prepare an individual monthly action plan in reference to the work plan and share with the Nutrition and Health Programme manager in the regular monthly planning meeting with nutrition and health teams led by the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager;
  • Maintain and update the database for health workers, community health workers/volunteers, trainings, and share with the line manager;
  • Facilitate quarterly review meetings/workshops with respective government health managers at the State/LGA level;
  • Review financial, logistical, and HR needs on a monthly & quarterly basis and share with the N&HPM;
  • Use a specific supervision checklist during supervision visits and archive filled supervision checklists with a summary report – every month;
  • Track Supervisee’s daily attendance, validate monthly attendance for supervisee, and submit it on a timely basis to HR;
  • Update LGA work plans, individual work plans, and share with the line manager;
  • Ensure that referrals are made to the nearest higher-level centre and tracked for high-risk pregnancies, SAM with medical complications, and other conditions requiring higher-level care;
  • Share training plans with identified needs with the PM well in advance to facilitate support from HR/Admin/Logistics;
  • During the supervision visit, identify gaps in the supply side and report to the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager for remedial action;
  • Ensure use of predefined quality assessment checklist, on-the-job coaching guidance, as well as support for Nutrition and Health assistants in using these tools;
  • Ensure that all children and patients visiting ACF-supported health facilities are properly examined and treated according to national health and nutritional protocols and standards;
  • Use the appropriate attendance sheet for on-the-job coaching sessions, workshops/meetings, and training, and share a copy with the line manager;
  • Draft supply request and share with Deputy Nutrition & Health Manager monthly;
  • Maintain an individual monitoring & supervision plan for the supervisee;
  • Update and maintain the 5W/4W mapping (Health and Nutrition sector) tool monthly for the operational LGA, and share with the Nutrition and Health Programme Manager;
  • Ensure that all health facilities/sites have adequate supplies to deliver uninterrupted health care services through identifying needs, informing the line manager regularly;
  • Liaise with HR to provide orientation on ACF charter/core values/child safeguarding policy/staff code of conduct, etc;
  • Regularly report and coordinate with line management.
  • Collect consumption reports from health facilities, compile for LGA, and share with the line manager with needs for the upcoming month;
  • Prepare a consolidated tracking tool for supportive supervision visits/on-job coaching sessions and share with the line manager;
  • Provide a summary analysis from the LGA report, including:
    • Bullet points on progress of training, on-the-job coaching, and supportive supervision;
    • Significant contextual changes that have an impact on nutrition & Health operations.
    • Feedback on quality of service provision through monitoring visits (checklist to be used);
    • Key challenges and proposed solutions
  • Update tracking tool to monitor programme screening-based data on acute malnutrition; collect health facility-based disease surveillance reports and update morbidity reporting tool for assigned health facilities/LGAs;
  • Communicate with HR for the necessary staff meeting, performance review, appraisals, and leaves of the supervisee;

Position Requirements

  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Hausa;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Midwifery, Public Health or other relevant qualifications with experience in Public Health and CMAM programming;
  • Team management experience with similar programs;
  • An excellent report-writing skill is required, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in primary health care program;
  • Ability to manage staff according to local culture and organization policies.
  • Good communication and Interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to observe and to provide feedback on the activities;
