We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Locum Medical Laboratory Scientist

Locations: Abuja (FCT), Benin - Edo, Lagos, Port Harcourt - Rivers
Reports to: The Centre Coordinator

Objectives

  • Strong communication and administrative skills are required to document communications, handle client complaints, and liaise with regulatory bodies.
  • The role involves building partnerships, maintaining confidentiality, and generating demand for MSI services.
  • The Locum Laboratory Scientist at (MSI) is responsible for client-centred clinical services and laboratory equipment maintenance.
  • The Laboratory Scientist must hold a recognized clinical qualification, have post-graduation experience, and be licensed and registered with local clinical professional bodies.
  • They should be motivated, empathetic, and capable of working independently.
  • They ensure accurate testing, specimen storage, and compliance with protocols.

Overall Responsibilities
Partnership and network building:

  • Maintain strict privacy and confidentiality to generate demand for MSN services.
  • Have a public relations and promotional role with colleagues, NHS and the general public.
  • Encourage a commitment to accommodating clients' special needs such as flexibility of workinghours.
  • Monitor monthly client numbers and income generated and in collaboration with the centre teamsmake appropriate recommendations to meet income to cost targets.
  • Timely collate and submit Laboratory reports to the centre team.

Laboratory Scientist roles:

  • Ensure formal communications with the various health partners are properly documented.
  • Maintain accurate records of all tests performed and the result of such tests.
  • Keep abreast with and ensure that MSN complies with latest developments in laboratory testing protocol in Nigeria.
  • Ensure cervical smear specimens are stored and packaged correctly for transportation to theapproved cytology / pathology laboratory.
  • Assist to provide counselling on core MSN Clinical services in the Laboratory.
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment (including calibration) in a proper working condition and prompt
  • Ensure specimen are obtained in the appropriate manner.
  • Make proper use of available information systems in MSI to facilitate service delivery & trainings
  • report of any malfunction to the centre coordinator.
  • Carry out any other lawful duties assigned by the Centre Coordinator.
  • Liaise appropriately with the Council of Medical Laboratory Sciences of Nigeria and other relevant regulatory bodies during routine or periodic visits and assessments for QC standards.
  • Welcoming, friendly, professional, and efficient atmosphere for all clients and visitor in the laboratory to always ensure client satisfaction.
  • Keep record of stock, perform forecasts, and ensure reagents and other laboratory consumable donot fall below minimum level.
  • Follow up on all client’s complaints relating to any of the MSN services and make recommendations.
  • Able to sign off on a lab result and take responsibility when there is an error in diagnosis.
  • Perform regular Quality control on laboratory reagents after supply and before use.
  • Communication and administration.
  • Provide timely and accurate result.

Required Qualifications
To perform this role, it is essential that you have the following skills:

  • Communication Skills: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for effective documentation, formal communication with health partners, handling client complaints, and collaborating with the centre team.
  • At least 1 year’s post-NYSC working experience in similar position.
  • Must be licenced and have a valid practicing licence
  • Must have a recognised clinical qualification in Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Must have the requisite experience to work with minimum supervision.
  • Empathy and Passion: Sympathy and empathy towards individuals seeking family planning and reproductive health services, along with a passion for maternal.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for data management, report preparation, and utilization of information systems.
  • Teamwork and Motivation: Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, demonstrate enthusiasm, and motivate team members to deliver high-quality service and achieve results.
  • Attention to Detail: Articulate and analytical approach with attention to detail in performing laboratory tests, maintaining accurate records, and adhering to regulatory standards.
  • Laboratory Skills: Proficient in maintaining laboratory equipment, performing tests accurately, and following laboratory protocols. Experience in quality control procedures and ensuring proper storage of specimens.
  • Client Interaction: Excellent client interaction skills to create a welcoming and professional atmosphere, ensuring client satisfaction, and providing counselling on MSN clinical services.
  • Clinical Expertise: Possess a recognized clinical qualification in Medical Laboratory Science and relevant experience to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be registered with a recognised local clinical professional body in Nigeriaand of good Standing
  • Regulatory Compliance: Familiarity with the Council of Medical Laboratory Sciences of Nigeria and other relevant regulatory bodies' standards and the ability to ensure compliance during routine assessments.
  • Knowledge of Health Systems: Desirable understanding of the health delivery system in Nigeria and experience working with the Nigeria Health Service and / or an INGO.
  • Relevant post-graduate qualification e.g. MBA, MSc, MA (desirable).
