Job Title: Chinese Translator (Retail Operations)
Location: Victoria Island, Lagos

About the Role
- This is a full-time on-site role based in Lagos for a Chinese Translator (Retail Operations). The role involves providing real-time language support for internal and external communications, translating written documents from Chinese to English (and vice versa), and ensuring accuracy in interpretation.
- The translator will assist with cross-cultural communication, facilitate meetings, support retail operations, and relay information between Chinese expatriates and the local team.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Chinese staff in communicating effectively with Nigerian employees, supervisors, and other departments.
- Act as a cultural bridge to facilitate smooth communication, minimize misunderstandings, and build a cohesive, collaborative workplace.
- Perform other operations-support and coordination tasks as assigned by management.
- Provide simultaneous or consecutive interpretation during team meetings, inventory checks, training sessions and daily work instructions.
- Translate business documents, procedure manuals, and reports between Chinese and English.
- Assist local staff and Chinese management in retail operations. Help translate and enforce company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and employee deliverables.
Requirements
- Attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and cultural relevance of translations.
- Ability to work on-site and collaborate efficiently in a fast-paced team environment.
- Experience working in or knowledge of retail operations and business communications is highly preferable.
- Strong communication skills to facilitate clear and effective cross-cultural interactions and collaborations
- Proficient in using Excel, with good data analysis ability.
- Bachelor’s Degree/HND or equivalent with 1-3 years of working experience as a Chinese–English translator in a corporate environment.
- Fluency in both written and spoken Mandarin Chinese and English, with excellent interpretation and translation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and proficiency in basic office software (Microsoft Office suite).
- Proven organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
