Job Position: Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO)

Job Location: Lagos

About the Role


  • The Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) is responsible for leading the overall people strategy of the organisation, ensuring the development of a high-performance culture, strong leadership pipeline, and effective workforce planning across all business units.
  • The role will partner closely with executive leadership to align human capital strategy with business objectives in a highly technical and operational environment.
  • The CHRO will oversee all HR functions including talent acquisition, performance management, learning and development, compensation and benefits, employee relations, and organisational development, ensuring strong governance and compliance while driving employee engagement and productivity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive human resources strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Provide strategic leadership on workforce planning, organisational design, and talent management.
  • Drive leadership development, succession planning, and capability building across all levels of management.
  • Strengthen performance management systems to ensure accountability, productivity, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion a strong organisational culture that supports collaboration, discipline, and high performance.
  • Oversee employee relations and ensure effective resolution of workplace issues.
  • Lead compensation and benefits strategy to ensure competitiveness and internal equity.
  • Ensure compliance with labour laws, regulations, and corporate governance standards.
  • Partner with executive management on change management, restructuring, and business transformation initiatives.
  • Build and maintain strong leadership pipelines and ensure effective succession planning for critical roles.
  • Promote data-driven HR decision-making through analytics and workforce insights.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Sciences, or related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred).
  • 12–15 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 8 years in a senior HR leadership role.
  • Strong experience in oil & gas, engineering, or other technical/industrial environments is highly preferred.
  • Proven ability to operate at executive level and influence senior leadership decisions.
  • Deep understanding of organisational design, workforce planning, and leadership development.
  • Strong knowledge of labour laws, HR governance, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex organisational dynamics and drive cultural transformation.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Professional HR certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM-SCP, CIPD) is an added advantage.
