Job Title: Safeguarding Supervisor
Location: Abuja (FCT)
Contract Period: Fix Term Contract
Main Purpose
- Under the supervision of the Responsible SG Coordinator, the Safeguarding Officer supports the implementation and operationalization of MSF’s Safeguarding framework Standards at mission and project level.
- The Safeguarding Officer ensures effective rollout of prevention activities, supervises Safeguarding/Behavioural Focal Points at project level, strengthens safe reporting mechanisms, and supports the creation of a safe environment for staff, patients, and communities.
- The position translates mission safeguarding strategy into practical, consistent implementation across projects.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Implementation of Safeguarding Strategy:
- Support the Responsible SG Coordinator in implementing the mission safeguarding and abuse prevention strategy.
- Conduct project-level context analysis related to barriers and fears to reporting.
- Support safeguarding risk assessments and ensure mitigation measures are in place and implemented at project and coordination level.
- Ensure alignment of MSF activities with MSF Behavioural Commitments.
Supervision of SG Officers:
- Develop and monitor workplans of Safeguarding officers.
- Conduct regular field visits to supervise and support prevention activities.
- Provide coaching and technical guidance to strengthen facilitation skills.
- Ensure consistency and quality of awareness sessions across projects.
- Review and validate monthly reports from SG officers.
Prevention & Awareness Activities:
- Support design and rollout of awareness sessions for:
- MSF local and international staff
- MoH staff
- Contractors and partners
- Patients, caregivers and communities
- Ensure prevention messaging includes:
- Responsible Behaviour
- Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment and abuse prevention
- Individual and institutional responsibilities
- Reporting procedures
- Support to survivors
- Support adaptation and dissemination of tools (Tembo trainings, posters, videos, leaflets).
- Organize refresher sessions at project level as required.
Reporting & Complaint Mechanisms:
- Support projects in establishing safe, confidential, and accessible complaint channels.
- Ensure staff and communities understand how to raise concerns safely.
- Strengthen referral pathways in coordination with HR and project management.
- Ensure complaints are channelled appropriately and confidentially to designated case management structures.
- Raise awareness on how to receive complaints in a sensitive and survivor-cantered manner.
Capacity Building:
- Support and co-facilitate Training of Trainers (TOT) sessions for SG officers.
- Organize induction briefings on Responsible Behaviour for new staff at project level.
- Identify training gaps and propose solutions to the SG Coordinator and the country coordination
Monitoring & Reporting:
- Collect and analyse data on prevention activities and trends at project level.
- Consolidate project reports for submission to the SG Coordinator.
- Identify recurring risks, weaknesses, or systemic gaps.
- Provide regular updates to the SG Coordinator and relevant coordination members.
- Escalate safeguarding concerns appropriately and confidentially.

- HRCo and HR project teams
- Project Coordinators
- MedCo and Health Promotion teams
- Community representatives
MinimumRequired Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Law, Psychology, Education, Social Communication, or related field (required).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in safeguarding, abuse prevention, protection, or ethics within an international organization (required).
- Experience in humanitarian field settings (asset).
- Experience supervising or coaching staff (required).
- Experience facilitating workshops and handling sensitive topics (required).
Languages:
- English working language mandatory.
- Local languages used in MSF projects contexts desirable.
