Job Position: Community Health Officer

Job Location: Mainland, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Role Summary


  • A Community Health Officer is responsible for providing preventive, promotive, and basic curative health services within communities.
  • They work to improve public health, reduce disease burden, and ensure access to essential healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
Community Health Services:

  • Provide basic medical care and first aid to patients
  • Diagnose and treat common illnesses (e.g., malaria, infections, minor injuries)
  • Refer complicated cases to higher-level healthcare facilities

Health Education & Promotion

  • Educate individuals and communities on hygiene, nutrition, sanitation, and disease prevention
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and awareness of common health risks
  • Conduct community outreach programs and health talks

Maternal & Child Health:

  • Provide antenatal and postnatal care services
  • Monitor child growth and development
  • Support immunization programs and child health initiatives

Disease Prevention & Control:

  • Participate in vaccination campaigns
  • Monitor and report outbreaks of diseases
  • Assist in public health surveillance and data collection

Community Engagement:

  • Work with community leaders and stakeholders
  • Mobilize community participation in health programs
  • Build trust and strong relationships within the community

Record Keeping & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate patient records and health data
  • Prepare and submit reports to health authorities
  • Track health trends within the community

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Community Health (or related field)
  • Registration with relevant professional body (e.g., Community Health Practitioners Registration Board)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic clinical and diagnostic skills
  • Ability to work independently and in rural/community settings
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Work Environment:

  • Primary healthcare centers
  • Rural or semi-urban communities
  • Outreach and field-based environments
  • Sometimes requires traveling to remote areas.
