Job Title: General Manager (Construction Machinery & Equipment)

Job Summary

  • The GM will also oversee maintenance schedules and ensure smooth operational performance across the business.
  • The successful candidate will oversee the overall operations, strategy, and profitability of the construction equipment and machinery leasing company.
  • The General Manager (GM) of a construction equipment and machinery leasing company will be responsible for overseeing the company’s operations, ensuring that all machinery and equipment are rented and leased efficiently, and managing the company’s inventory.

Responsibilities
Strategic Oversight:

  • Drive business growth strategies and operational excellence across the organization.
  • Ensure all machinery and equipment are available, rented, and leased efficiently to meet client needs.

Operational Efficiency:

  • Collaborate with various departments to manage inventory and oversee maintenance schedules.
  • Optimize logistics and operational processes to improve efficiency and equipment utilization.
  • Implement safety procedures and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Customer Service Excellence:

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships.
  • Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Ensure excellent customer service delivery and client satisfaction.

Leadership & Staff Management:

  • Foster a positive and performance-driven work culture.
  • Lead, train, and manage staff across operational and technical functions.
  • Mentor teams to improve productivity and operational effectiveness.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations including equipment leasing, maintenance scheduling, logistics, and customer service activities.
  • Ensure smooth coordination between departments to achieve operational goals.

Financial Oversight:

  • Prepare budgets and monitor financial performance.
  • Manage operational costs and ensure revenue and profitability targets are achieved.
  • Support strategic financial planning and resource allocation.

Team Management:

  • Lead, motivate, and supervise sales, operations, and technical teams to achieve company objectives.
  • Set performance expectations and monitor staff productivity.

Compliance & Safety:

  • Ensure adherence to industry regulations, workplace safety standards, and environmental policies.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety and operational compliance across the organization.

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Analyze market trends, business performance, and operational challenges.
  • Recommend strategies and process improvements to enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Prepare regular operational and financial reports for management and board review.

Performance Metrics

  • Fleet utilization rate
  • Employee engagement and retention
  • Operational efficiency (downtime reduction, maintenance costs)
  • Revenue growth and profitability
  • Customer satisfaction scores

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in equipment leasing, construction, or heavy machinery industry, with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
  • Proven track record of driving business growth and operational efficiency.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field (MBA preferred)

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with fleet management software, ERP systems, and digital leasing platforms.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of construction equipment, machinery operations, and leasing practices.
  • Negotiation & Communication: Skilled in contract negotiation, stakeholder engagement, and clear communication.
  • Leadership & People Management: Ability to inspire and manage diverse teams.
  • Financial Acumen: Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to handle operational challenges and deliver practical solutions.
