Job Title: Crew Operations Support

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Description

  • As a Commercial Operator, you will be accountable to the Commercial Operations Manager for the daily operations and voyage performance of each vessel assigned to you.

Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining thorough voyage records using accepted documentation methods, including SharePoint, software tools, and emails, under company guidelines.
  • Promote cost leadership within the commercial operations team and establish professional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Be physically present five days a week in our London HQ
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures, prepare voyage-related invoices, and assist in closing commercial claims.
  • Record off-hires, ensure timely submission of VMS reports, and manage bunker requirements.
  • Preparing, adjusting, reviewing, and issuing voyage-related invoices.
  • Be available outside of regular office hours as required by the demands of the role, as would be expected in any commercial shipping role
  • Monitoring vessels for idle time and slow steaming and submitting timely requests to charterers for remedial or preventative measures.
  • Communicate with external parties, including vessels, charterers, and brokers, to optimize voyage performance.
  • Ensuring compliance with company procedures, including bills of lading, letters of protest, and letters of indemnity, and liaising with all parties when necessary.
  • Keeping the Voyage Management System up to date and reporting any shortcomings to the Operations Manager promptly.
  • Review and issue voyage instructions, monitor time charter parties, and assess vessel performance against requirements.
  • Establishing relationships with charterers and attending owners/charterers' meetings or other forums as required by the Operations Manager.
  • Managing bunker requirements for assigned vessels by identifying suitable bunker delivery ports and negotiating best prices to the owner's advantage.
  • Working with the Head of Operations and Operations Managers to close out all assigned GAPS and Macro outstanding.
  • Maintaining professional relationships with charterers, customers, agents, and other industry professionals.
  • Maintain accurate voyage records using accepted documentation methods.
  • Ensuring proper control and recording of all voyage-related invoices/payments in the VMS system.
  • Monitoring re-billable costs and ensuring timely rebilling to necessary parties while notifying the claims team.
  • Assisting in the closure of any necessary commercial claims.
  • Appointing and liaising with approved port agents, security guard companies, and other vendors to ensure cost-effective and smooth operational turnaround.
  • Completing assigned forms promptly and ensuring readiness for review by the management team.
  • Monitoring vessel availability for trading and reporting any shortcomings to the Commercial Operations Manager promptly.
  • Promoting cost leadership within the commercial operations team.
  • Collaborate closely with charterers and vessel master’s regarding voyage planning and instructions for company-owned and time-charter in operated vessels.
  • Conducting ship-shore compatibility work as needed and coordinating with charterers and terminals to ensure compliance with vessel acceptance and terminal compatibility requirements.
  • Collaborating with insurance on voyage-related matters to ensure timely notifications and arrangement of premiums.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:

  • 5–7 years’ experience in offshore marine operations, vessel management, or a similar role.
  • Knowledge of Nigerian maritime regulations and offshore industry practices.
  • Strong understanding of offshore support vessels (OSVs), marine logistics, and operational readiness.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem?solving skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working with captains and crew in a shore?based support capacity.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with DP vessels, AHTS, PSV, or other offshore fleet types.
  • Seagoing experience (e.g., Deck Officer, Marine Engineer) is a strong advantage.
  • Experience supporting chartering or commercial marine activities.
