Job Title: Business Development Manager

Location: Lagos

Job Summary

  • Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), the SBDM plays a pivotal role in expanding the company’s market presence with International Oil Companies (IOCs), National Oil Companies (NOCs), Indigenous Oil Companies, regulators, and industry stakeholders.
  • The Senior Business Development Manager (SBDM) is responsible for driving revenue growth, securing high value contracts, and managing key client relationships within the Nigerian oil and gas sector. This role translates commercial strategy into executable opportunities by building a strong pipeline of projects, leading client engagement, supporting tendering activities, and driving strategic partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Expansion:

  • Develop and execute business development plans aligned with revenue and growth targets.
  • Represent the company at client meetings, exhibitions, trade shows, and industry conferences.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline of prospects and projects.
  • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and industry intelligence gathering.
  • Drive cold outreach, client prospecting, and opportunity conversion.
  • Identify, pursue, and convert new business opportunities across upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors.

Client Relationship Management:

  • Engage regularly with regulators and industry bodies such as NNPC/NUIMS, NCDMB, NUPRC, NIPEX, PETAN, etc.
  • Maintain an up-to-date client and prospect database.
  • Manage strategic accounts to ensure repeat business and customer satisfaction.
  • Coordinate client visits, inspections, and stakeholder engagements.
  • Build and sustain long-term relationships with key clients and stakeholders.

Tendering, Bidding & Proposal Development:

  • Support the Bids & Tendering team with technical and commercial input into proposals.
  • Participate in bid clarifications, commercial negotiations, and contract finalization.
  • Coordinate cross-functional inputs for high-quality bid submissions.
  • Track RFQs, RFPs, and ITTs using a structured tender tracker.

Contract Negotiation & Commercial Management:

  • Support commercial negotiations and ensure profitable deal structuring.
  • Ensure compliance with local content and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with Legal, Finance, PMO, and technical teams on contract reviews and risk mitigation.

Market Intelligence & Strategic Partnerships:

  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities.
  • Provide actionable market intelligence reports to guide strategy.
  • Identify partnership and alliance opportunities to strengthen service offerings.

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Guide opportunity pursuit and client engagement strategies.
  • Supervise and mentor Business Development Executives and Interns.
  • Collaborate with PMO, Engineering, SCM, Finance, Legal, and Operations for seamless project transition.

Requirements
Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, Economics, or related field.
  • MBA is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Proven track record of winning high-value contracts in Nigeria.
  • At least 4–6 years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
  • Experience engaging IOCs, NOCs, and Indigenous companies.
  • 8–12+ years’ experience in business development or commercial roles in the oil & gas servicing sector.
  • Strong experience with tendering, proposal preparation, and client management.

Knowledge and Proficiency in:

  • Market analysis and competitive intelligence.
  • Oilfield service lines such as engineering, procurement, marine logistics, fabrication, and maintenance.
  • Nigerian oil and gas industry structure and procurement processes.
  • Local content regulations and regulatory frameworks.
  • Tendering, bid management, and contract negotiation.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strategic thinking with strong commercial and financial acumen.
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Self-driven, target-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with C-level stakeholders.
