Job Summary

• A primary teacher teaches children usually between ages 5–11.

Responsibilities

• Organize extracurricular activities
• Assess pupils through tests, assignments, and classwork
• Teach subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies
• Prepare lesson notes and teaching materials
• Attend staff meetings and communicate with parents
• Maintain discipline and classroom management
• Support pupils’ emotional and academic growth
• Keep records of attendance and performance

Skills and Qualities

• Strong teaching and organizational skills
• Classroom management ability
• Registration with a teaching authority may be required
• Qualifications
• NCE, B.Ed., or related teaching qualification
