Job Title: Fashion and Garment Design Instructor (WAEC Specialist)

Reports to:Head of Faculty Humanities / Vice Principal (Academics)

Job Summary

  • We are seeking a creative and technically proficientFashion and Garment Design Teacherto lead our students through the new WAEC syllabus.
  • Your goal is to ensure 100% success in the WASSCE examinations and to inspire the next generation of African fashion leaders.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the theoretical foundations of textiles and design, while providing hands-on training in pattern drafting, garment construction, and fashion entrepreneurship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Exam Preparation: Prepare students for Paper 1 (Objectives), Paper 2 (Essay), and the criticalPaper 3 (Test of Practical Work).
  • Pattern Drafting: Teaching basic bodice, skirt, sleeve, and trouser blocks.
  • Workshop Management: Supervise the fashion lab, ensuring all equipment (sewing machines, cutting tables, dress forms) is maintained and used safely.
  • Technical Instruction: Provide expert hands-on training in:
  • Curriculum Delivery: Deliver engaging lessons based on the2026 WAEC Garment Making syllabus, covering topics such as and fibers/fabrics, elements of design, and figure types.
  • Project Supervision:Oversee the "Mini Garment" and "Independent Garment" projects required for student portfolios and exhibitions.
  • Garment Construction: Guiding students through the production of blouses, skirts, trousers, and gowns.
  • Sewing Techniques: Mastery of different seams, hems, openings, and fastenings.
  • Entrepreneurship Mentorship: Teach the business side of fashion, including costing, market research, and setting up a garment business.

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Certification: A teaching qualification (TRCN) is a significant advantage.
  • Education: B.Sc., B.Ed., or HND in Fashion Design, Clothing and Textiles, Home Economics, or a related field.
  • Expertise in operating industrial and domestic sewing machines.
  • Experience: 2–3 years teaching experience in a secondary school or vocational institute, with a track record of WAEC/NECO success.
  • Technical Mastery: Proficiency inFreehand CuttingandPattern Drafting(Standard blocks and adaptations).
  • Knowledge of fabric properties (natural vs. synthetic) and garment care.
  • Soft Skills: High attention to detail, patience for teaching beginners, and strong organizational skills for managing practical assessments.

Working Tools Familiarity:

  • Cutting equipment (shears, rotary cutters).
  • Pressing equipment (steam irons, tailor's hams).
  • The candidate must be comfortable instructing students on the use of:
  • Measuring and marking tools (L-squares, French curves, tracing wheels).
