We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Migration Health Nurse Consultant

Contract type: Consultancy (Up to 11 months)

Responsibilities
Tasks to be performed under this contract:

  • Follow and implement the Health Assessment Programme’s checklists and SOPs and maintain standard universal precautions within MHAC.
  • Prepare administrative reports and program updates as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned
  • Ensure proper identification and follow-up by:
    • Ensuring ID verification for each step of the health assessment process; and,
    • Comprehensive history taking;
    • Keeping a register of applicants who undergo health investigations and testing.
    • Accurate and thorough Biodata collection;
  • Medical examinations:
    • Treatment and referrals;
    • Imaging;
    • iBlood, urine or sputum collection as required;
    • Other technical areas as may be required.
    • TB management;
    • Such as checking vital signs, weight, height, visual acuity;
    • Laboratory testing;
    • Documentation, certification and information transmission; and,
    • Pre-departure procedures and medical movements;
    • Vaccinations;
  • Perform daily nursing activities in the Migration Health Assessment Clinic (MHAC) to fulfil the technical requirements of the resettlement countries in the areas of:
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with various partners to facilitate follow-up and relevant information sharing. Partners include internal IOM departments, other health providers, panel physicians, embassies other UN agencies or NGOs and others as applicable.
  • Provide information and detailed explanations to the migrants and/or refugees in relation to:
    • Treatments and referrals.
    • The migration health assessment process; and,
  • Provide pre and/or post counselling to migrants or refugees on TB or HIV education, prevention and management as appropriate.
  • Collect statistical information and share with the Senior Migration Health Nurse or CMHO as per pre- set and agreed-upon format.

Performance indicators for the evaluation of results

  • Prepare and submit report on tasks accomplished on Monthly basis.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with various partners to facilitate follow-up and relevant information sharing. Partners include internal IOM departments, other health providers, panel physicians and others as applicable.
  • Follow and implement the Health Assessment Programme’s checklists and SOPs and maintain standard universal precautions within MHAC.
  • Collect daily statistical information of task accomplished and share with the Senior Migration Health Nurse or CMHO as per pre- set and agreed-upon format.
  • Provide counselling to migrants to Migrants on the Health Assessment process, TB or HIV education, prevention and management as appropriate.
  • Resumption and closure from work based on the stipulated time, completion and submission of time sheet.
  • Performance of daily nursing activities in the Migration Health Assessment Clinic (MHAC) to fulfil the technical requirements of the resettlement countries.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:

  • A valid license to practice nursing in Nigeria
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Science

Experience:

  • Training or working experience in the areas of Tuberculosis management, immunizations, mental health, communicable diseases, laboratory testing or public health is an advantage
  • Excellent technical skills, including in phlebotomy
  • Minimum of three years relevant clinical experience

Skills:

  • Counselling, health promotion, public health or migration health skills/experience is a plus.
  • Good knowledge of clinical care especially in the Primary or secondary Health Care settings.
  • Good communication skills and proven ability in working in a team.
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
  • Computer literacy required: MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Access)

Languages:

  • Fluency in English (oral and written) required.
  • Desirable, working knowledge of the local language.
