We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Chief Commercial Officer (CCO)

Location: Lagos
Reports to: CEO
Department: Business Development

The Role

  • The candidate will be responsible for driving the company's commercial growth by developing strategic partnerships, expanding institutional sales, building a high-performing business development function, and creating sustainable revenue streams.
  • As we enter an exciting new phase of growth, we are looking for an exceptional commercial leader to build and lead our revenue engine.
  • This is a leadership position for someone who can think strategically, execute effectively, and build commercial systems that scale.
  • The CCO is a field based role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee marketing activities to ensure they generate qualified business opportunities.
  • Secure partnerships with government agencies, NGOs, development partners, corporate organizations, foundations, cooperatives, financial institutions, and other key stakeholders.
  • Lead proposal development, negotiations, and contract closing.
  • Develop and execute Smart Energies' commercial growth strategy.
  • Work closely with the CEO to identify new market opportunities and expand Smart Energies' impact.
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of institutional opportunities.
  • Lead business development, strategic partnerships, and revenue generation.
  • Build, mentor, and lead the commercial team as the company grows.
  • Develop and implement sales processes, CRM systems, and commercial KPIs.

What Success Looks Like
Within the first 6 months, the successful candidate will have:

  • Increased institutional sales and revenue.
  • Implemented measurable commercial systems and KPIs.
  • Built a robust commercial pipeline.
  • Established strategic partnerships across multiple sectors.
  • Positioned Smart Energies as a leading clean energy access partner in Nigeria.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with corporates, government agencies, high networth individuals, development organizations, or the renewable energy sector is highly desirable.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Proven track record of generating significant revenue through strategic partnerships and institutional sales.
  • A postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 12 years' progressive experience in business development, commercial leadership, partnerships, or strategy.
  • Strong proposal writing, presentation, and negotiation skills.
