We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Tank Inspector

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Contract
Function: Storage Tank Construction and Integrity
Reports to: Tank/Mechanical Integrity Engineer / QA/QC Manager
Supervises: None

Role Purpose

  • Inspect storage-tank construction, rehabilitation, repair, and in-service integrity activities, verifying conformance with approved design, API requirements, welding/coating procedures, and safe return-to-service criteria.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor weld repairs, plate replacement, patching, nozzle work, jacking, structural repair, and reinspection against approved procedures.
  • Verify material identification, dimensions, plumbness, roundness, settlement, fit-up, weld preparation, welder qualifications, and welding controls.
  • Evaluate findings, raise punch items/NCRs, and support repair recommendations and fitness-for-service or engineering review where required.
  • Review tank drawings, repair scopes, inspection history, settlement data, material specifications, WPS/PQRs, ITPs, NDT, coating, and hydrotest procedures.
  • Coordinate VT, PT/MT, UT, radiographic interpretation, vacuum-box testing, leak testing, and other specified examinations.
  • Inspect foundations, annular plates, bottom plates, shell courses, roof, nozzles, manways, reinforcement, structural attachments, and appurtenances.
  • Inspect internal linings, external coatings, surface preparation, DFT, holiday testing, and corrosion-control provisions.
  • Witness hydrostatic testing, settlement monitoring, roof/drain checks, cleaning, reinstatement, and pre-commissioning activities.
  • Compile complete inspection records, weld maps, NDT reports, test results, repair history, and tank handover dossier inputs.

Key Performance Measures

  • Tank dossier accepted with complete traceability
  • Tank inspection scope completed to plan
  • Critical defects identified before hydrotest or return to service
  • Weld/NDT and leak-test first-pass acceptance
  • Repair and punch items closed on time

Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to interpret tank drawings, weld maps, inspection results, repair details, and acceptance criteria.
  • Typically 7 or more years of tank construction, repair, coating, or integrity inspection experience.
  • HND or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials/Metallurgical, Welding, Civil, or a related discipline.
  • Strong practical knowledge of tank welding, geometry, NDT, bottom leak testing, coating/lining, hydrotest, and settlement monitoring.
  • Experience working safely in confined spaces and around hydrotest and lifting operations.

Preferred Certifications and Standards Knowledge:

  • API 653 certification is strongly preferred; API 650 construction experience is required for new-build assignments.
  • CSWIP 3.1 and ASNT/ISO 9712 Level II are advantageous.
  • AMPP/NACE coating certification is desirable for lining and coating scopes.

  • Internal interfaces: Tank engineering, construction, welding, coating, civil, commissioning, operations, asset integrity, and HSE teams.
