Grundtvig International Secondary School is a multi award-winning co-educational boarding school owned by the Grundtvig Movement of Nigeria, a non-governmental organisation committed to the development of “Education for Life” in Nigeria. The Board of Trustees of the Grundtvig Movement controls the operations of the school through the principal. The Grundtvig Movement is inspired by the Danish Education-for-Life philosopher Bishop N.F.S. Grundtvig (1783-1872) and our rich tradition. The Grundtvig International Secondary School won the 2020 Presidential Award as the Best Private Secondary School in Nigeria.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: School Matron

Location: Oba, Anambra

Job Description

  • The School Matron will be responsible for the welfare, wellbeing, supervision, and pastoral care of boarding students and for maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation across the school. She will coordinate the day-to-day administration of the boarding hostels, supervise the school's sanitation and housekeeping staff, promote students' discipline and wellbeing, liaise with parents where necessary, and work closely with the Vice Principal (Pastoral) and other members of staff to maintain a safe, healthy, orderly, and child-friendly school environment.

Person Specification
The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, counselling, organisational, and supervisory skills.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience as a School Matron, House Parent, Hostel Supervisor, or in a similar student welfare or housekeeping management role, preferably in a reputable boarding school.
  • Demonstrable ability to supervise staff and maintain high standards of hygiene, sanitation, and housekeeping.
  • Strong moral values, integrity, character, and discipline, with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • A minimum of a First Degree or Higher National Diploma.
  • A very good standard of spoken and written English and good computer literacy.
  • A caring, patient, firm, and approachable personality with a genuine passion for working with and positively influencing young people.
