Job Title: Core Banking Officer

Job Description

  • The ideal candidate must possess strong understanding of digital banking ecosystems, API integrations, transaction workflows, settlement processes, banking operations, system configurations, user management, and fintech infrastructure while being capable of independently building operational structures, processes, controls, and support frameworks from the ground up.
  • The role requires a highly technical, analytical, and solution-driven professional with strong experience in Core Banking systems, digital banking operations, payment integrations, transaction processing, system administration, user support, reconciliation support, and banking technology operations within banking, fintech, or financial services environments.
  • The role is responsible for supporting, managing, optimizing, and driving the Bank’s Core Banking operations, digital banking integrations, and system administration within a fintech-driven digital microfinance bank.
  • The successful candidate will play a critical role in establishing and managing the Bank’s Core Banking structure from inception, ensuring the stability, security, efficiency, and scalability of all banking system operations while supporting seamless digital banking services across multiple channels.

Responsibilities
Core Banking System Administration:

  • Configure banking products, customer parameters, GL mappings, workflows, and transaction rules within the Core Banking System.
  • Support onboarding and setup of savings accounts, current accounts, fixed deposits, loans, wallets, and other banking products.
  • Manage and administer the Bank’s Core Banking Application and related platforms.
  • Ensure system uptime, stability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain system parameters, user profiles, approval workflows, and access controls.

Core Banking Structure & Process Development:

  • Collaborate with Management in building a technology-driven banking operation framework.
  • Establish operational controls and governance processes around Core Banking activities.
  • Design scalable support processes for digital banking operations and transaction management.
  • Support the establishment of the Bank’s Core Banking operational structure from inception.
  • Develop SOPs, operational guidelines, process documentation, and system support frameworks.

Digital Banking & Payment Integration Support:

  • Support integration of digital banking channels including mobile banking, internet banking, USSD, POS, cards, payment gateways, and wallets.
  • Ensure seamless transaction processing across all customer touchpoints.
  • Liaise with payment switches, aggregators, card processors, and technology vendors.
  • Monitor transaction flows across all banking channels and payment systems.
  • Support API integrations between the Core Banking System and third-party platforms.

Transaction Monitoring & Operational Support:

  • Identify, escalate, and resolve transaction failures, reversals, pending transactions, and processing issues.
  • Monitor daily banking transactions and system activities.
  • Support reconciliation processes between the Core Banking platform and partner channels.
  • Support resolution of customer complaints relating to banking transactions and system-related issues.
  • Ensure accurate posting of customer transactions and ledger balances.

Core Banking Operations & Product Support:

  • Support teller operations and transaction processing activities within the Core Banking environment.
  • Manage savings and current account product configurations.
  • Support setup and management of loan products, repayment structures, interest configurations, and repayment schedules.
  • Support fixed deposit configurations, maturity instructions, liquidation processes, and interest applications.
  • Ensure operational efficiency across all banking products and services.

System Testing & Change Management:

  • Collaborate with Technology and Product teams during implementation projects.
  • Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for new features, integrations, and enhancements.
  • Support migration activities and process automation initiatives.
  • Participate in system testing, upgrades, deployments, and release management activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation of system changes and deployments.

Data Management & Reporting:

  • Generate operational, financial, and transaction reports from the Core Banking platform.
  • Support MIS reporting, regulatory reporting, and operational analytics.
  • Monitor transaction trends, system performance, and operational metrics.
  • Support audit requests and data extraction requirements.
  • Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and completeness within banking systems.

Risk, Compliance & Security Management:

  • Support implementation of cybersecurity, data protection, and operational risk controls.
  • Ensure compliance with CBN guidelines, NDIC requirements, and internal operational policies.
  • Ensure audit readiness and proper system documentation.
  • Monitor suspicious transactions and escalate operational irregularities where necessary.
  • Maintain proper maker-checker controls and user access governance.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management:

  • Coordinate issue resolution and system support activities with external partners.
  • Monitor vendor SLAs and service delivery performance.
  • Liaise with Core Banking vendors, payment partners, and technology service providers.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Treasury, Finance, Risk, Compliance, and Product teams to support banking operations.

Department Setup & Operational Leadership:

  • Serve as a key technology operations resource within the Bank.
  • Support the establishment of the Bank’s Core Banking support and administration framework from the ground up.
  • Provide technical guidance and operational support across departments.
  • Assist in building scalable operational structures for future growth.
  • Contribute to process automation, operational efficiency, and digital transformation initiatives.

Requirements
Education:

  • Relevant professional certifications or Core Banking certifications will be an added advantage.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Banking, Finance, Engineering, or related discipline.

Experience:

  • Experience working in startup or fast-growth financial institutions is an added advantage.
  • Experience supporting digital banking channels, payment systems, and transaction platforms.
  • 4–7 years experience in Core Banking Operations, Banking Technology, Digital Banking Support, or Financial Services Technology.
  • Experience with APIs, payment integrations, and digital financial systems.
  • Strong experience working with Core Banking Applications within banking or fintech environments.
  • Experience in microfinance banking, fintech, digital banking, or commercial banking environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of banking operations, transaction processing, and reconciliation workflows.
  • Strong understanding of CBN operational requirements and banking system controls.
