Job Title: Assistant Accountant

Location: Ikeja, Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The Assistant Accountant will contribute to the timely preparation of financial reports while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and adherence to internal controls.
  • The role is responsible for assisting with day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, payroll support, expense tracking, financial documentation, and maintaining proper accounting records.
  • The Assistant Accountant provides administrative and financial support to the Accountant in maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with the Company's financial policies and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Assist in Financial Records Management:

  • Maintain an organized database of financial records for easy retrieval.
  • Ensure all accounting documents are properly filed and archived.

Accounts Payable & Receivable:

  • Assist in preparing payment vouchers and electronic transfers.
  • Process supplier invoices and prepare payment schedules.
  • Reconcile supplier and customer account statements.
  • Verify invoices, purchase orders, and supporting documentation before processing payments.

Bank & Cash Management:

  • Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare cash summaries and reconciliation reports.

Financial Reporting:

  • Support the Accountant during month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.

Payroll & Statutory Compliance:

  • Support the processing of pension, PAYE, NHF, NSITF, ITF, and other statutory remittances.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with applicable tax and financial regulations.

Audit & Internal Control:

  • Prepare documentation required for internal and external audits.
  • Ensure financial transactions comply with Company policies and procedures.

Procurement & Vendor Support:

  • Maintain supplier records and payment schedules.
  • Liaise with vendors regarding invoices and payment status.

Administrative Support:

  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information.
  • Prepare financial correspondence and reports.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience using accounting software will be an added advantage.
  • Active pursuit of a professional accounting certification will be an added advantage.
  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting.
  • Minimum of 0 - 2 years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Experience in engineering, construction, aviation, or project-based organizations is desirable.

Technical Skills & Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate financial reports.
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.

Behavioural Competencies:

  • High level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong sense of accountability and responsibility.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
  • Must reside in Lagos.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet reporting deadlines.
  • May be required to work extended hours during month-end, year-end closing, or audit periods.
  • Must demonstrate professionalism, honesty, and ethical conduct at all times.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding all financial and Company information.
  • Accommodation will not be provided.

Salary
N250,000 monthly.
