Petromech is a Kaduna-based company in Nigeria specializing in waste management, with a primary focus on producing base oils and engine oils from used lubricants. The company also operates a 2,500 m² workshop equipped to handle a wide range of mechanical maintenance, repair, and fabrication services.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Technical Procurement Engineer – Mechanical & Industrial Materials

Location: Kaduna

Job Description

  • The role requires a candidate who can understand technical requirements, review product specifications, communicate with suppliers, compare quotations, and prevent incorrect or unsuitable purchases.
  • We are looking for an experienced Technical Procurement Engineer to support and lead our procurement activities for our mechanical workshop, fabrication operations, waste oil recycling plant, base oil production facility, and lubricant manufacturing operations.
  • This is not a general procurement position. The ideal candidate must have strong technical knowledge of mechanical, industrial, workshop, fabrication, plant, and production materials. The successful candidate will be responsible for understanding material requirements, identifying the correct products, coordinating with suppliers, and guiding the procurement team to ensure that the right materials are purchased on time and according to technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with engineers, workshop supervisors, production teams, and management to clarify technical requirements.
  • Identify the correct technical specifications of required materials, equipment, spare parts, and consumables.
  • Follow up on delivery timelines and ensure materials are supplied on time.
  • Communicate with local and international suppliers to obtain quotations, technical details, datasheets, and availability information.
  • Source mechanical, industrial, fabrication, workshop, plant, and production-related materials.
  • Ensure that purchased materials match the required specifications, drawings, datasheets, or operational needs.
  • Support procurement for items such as steel materials, pipes, fittings, valves, flanges, pumps, motors, bearings, welding consumables, CNC/plasma consumables, hydraulic and pneumatic components, laboratory-related technical items, and plant spare parts.
  • Research new suppliers and alternative sources in Nigeria and abroad when required.
  • Maintain proper procurement records, supplier lists, quotations, and technical comparison sheets.
  • Prevent wrong purchases by verifying product suitability before ordering.
  • Review material requests from workshop, production, maintenance, laboratory, and project teams.
  • Guide and support the procurement team in sourcing accurate and suitable products.
  • Compare supplier offers from both technical and commercial perspectives.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Strong supplier communication and negotiation skills.
  • Strong research skills and ability to find reliable suppliers for uncommon or technical items.
  • Good understanding of mechanical spare parts, industrial consumables, and production materials.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, fabrication, workshop, and industrial plant materials.
  • Ability to read and understand technical specifications, datasheets, drawings, material lists, and equipment requirements.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and solution-focused.
  • Good knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel, for procurement tracking and comparison tables.
  • 5–7 years of experience in technical procurement, industrial procurement, mechanical procurement, or engineering-based purchasing roles.
  • Experience in mechanical workshops, fabrication companies, oil & gas, manufacturing plants, lubricant production, waste oil recycling, heavy industry, or similar sectors is highly preferred.
  • Ability to prepare quotation comparisons and procurement reports.
  • Ability to identify the difference between correct and incorrect materials based on technical requirements.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience sourcing materials both locally in Nigeria and internationally.
  • Strong technical judgment and practical field understanding.
  • Experience working with fabrication workshops or industrial production plants.
  • Knowledge of import procedures, logistics, and delivery follow-up is an advantage.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet urgent material requirements.
