Job Title: Senior Field Project Engineer

Location: Uyo, Akwa Ibom
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Purpose / Objectives

  • To support the Engineering, Technical and Projects (ETP) team in the delivery of civil and structural across CAPEX projects and Management of Change (MoC) activities, with a strong focus on contractor coordination, field execution, and the successful delivery of project objectives.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide clear and timely communication on project status, risks, and technical issues to relevant stakeholders.
  • Develop scopes of work, BoQs, and cost estimates for projects across the Company's assets in Nigeria.
  • Provide adequate input to support the Management of Change (MoC) process for project upgrades and modifications.
  • Actively participate in vendor assessments and the Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) process for projects.
  • Provide input into the development of Project Execution Plans and coordinate their implementation on-site.
  • Carry out on-site supervision and coordination of contractors' activities to ensure the safe and high-quality delivery of projects.
  • Develop and implement erosion protection and control measures to maintain ROW stability and prevent the exposure of buried pipelines.
  • Proactively assist in resolving field engineering challenges and escalate issues as required to ensure timely intervention and sustained operational uptime.
  • Prepare detailed site progress reports, inspection reports, and project close-out reports.
  • Develop, review, and interpret civil/structural and MEP drawings.
  • Provide on-site technical support and supervision of projects to ensure that the quality of materials, construction, installation, and commissioning activities is consistent with the Company's specifications and processes, national and international codes and standards, as well as regulatory and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Engage with the technical teams of government agencies and third parties to resolve issues relating to ROW encroachments.
  • Complete all assigned tasks as delegated by the Line Manager or Project Manager.
  • Review and approve contractors' deliverables before, during, and after project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with the Company's specifications, design integrity processes, and industry best practices.
  • Interface with other discipline engineers and teams to provide technical support and resolve challenges.
  • Ensure that engineering designs and work packages are properly structured for effective execution.
  • Monitor and control project performance against cost, schedule, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Actively participate in meetings and technical reviews, including HAZID, HAZOP, 3D model reviews, constructability reviews, and risk assessments, among others.
  • Inspect and evaluate pipeline ROW/wayleave encroachment activities, such as the construction of new roads, expansion of existing intrastate roads, channelization for flood control, and other third-party activities (e.g., sand mining and dredging), and recommend remedial measures to prevent the exposure of buried pipelines.

Job & Main Specifications (Education/Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, Experience & Other Required Details)

  • Ability to influence and drive performance across contractors and cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and manage project risks in dynamic field environments.

  • Proficiency in the use of software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and mapping tools (e.g., Google Earth Pro).
  • Ability to analyze and distil complex problems, establish evidence-based facts, draw accurate conclusions, and make sound recommendations.
  • A minimum of 12 years of relevant hands-on experience in engineering design and construction within the oil and gas industry.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Comfortable working in field conditions and making practical, timely engineering decisions.
  • Must be a team player with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage contractors and address field challenges during project execution.
  • Sound knowledge of safety and quality standards.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrable contractor management skills, with a proven track record of managing multiple contractors to achieve project objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical issues clearly and concisely to a diverse range of stakeholders, including field teams, contractors, management, and regulators.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Chartered status is an added advantage.
  • Proven knowledge of relevant national and international regulations, specifications, codes, and standards.
