We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Accountant (Female)

Location: Uyo, Akwa Ibom
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: MD
Direct Reports: None

Main Function

  • The Accountant is responsible for managing the financial records, accounting processes, and financial reporting of the construction company.
  • The role ensures accurate recording of transactions, effective cost control, project accounting, tax compliance, payroll processing, budgeting, and financial reporting while supporting project profitability and organizational growth.

Role Responsibilities
Financial Accounting:

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Maintain accurate books of accounts in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Record daily financial transactions and prepare journal entries.
  • Reconcile supplier, customer, and company accounts.
  • Maintain the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers.

Project Accounting:

  • Analyze project profitability and cost variances.
  • Monitor project costs against approved budgets.
  • Track project expenditures by project, location, and cost code.
  • Prepare work-in-progress (WIP) reports.
  • Ensure all project expenses are properly allocated.
  • Prepare project cost reports for management.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to monitor project financial performance.

Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Monitor operational and project expenditures.
  • Prepare budget variance analyses.
  • Ensure expenditures remain within approved budgets.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and project budgets.

Accounts Payable:

  • Reconcile supplier statements.
  • Verify invoices against purchase orders and delivery notes.
  • Ensure timely payment of vendors and subcontractors.
  • Process supplier invoices and payments.

Accounts Receivable:

  • Monitor outstanding receivables.
  • Follow up on overdue payments.
  • Prepare customer invoices.
  • Reconcile customer accounts.

Payroll Administration:

  • Ensure timely remittance of:
    • Pension
    • NHF (where applicable)
    • PAYE
    • NSITF
    • Industrial Training Fund (ITF)
    • Prepare and file tax returns.
    • Compute:
      • Value Added Tax (VAT)
      • Company Income Tax
      • PAYE
      • Withholding Tax (WHT)
    • Maintain payroll records. Tax Compliance
    • Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws.
    • Liaise with tax authorities during audits.
  • Calculate statutory deductions.
  • Process monthly payroll.
  • Cash and Treasury Management:

    • Support treasury operations.
    • Monitor bank balances.
    • Monitor cash flow.
    • Manage petty cash.
    • Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts.

    Internal Controls and Compliance:

    • Safeguard company assets.
    • Ensure compliance with company financial policies.
    • Strengthen financial controls to minimize fraud and errors.
    • Maintain proper documentation of financial transactions.
    • Support internal and external audits.

    Financial Reporting:

    • Provide project financial performance reports.
    • Generate financial reports for management.
    • Prepare monthly management accounts.
    • Support strategic financial planning.
    • Present financial analyses to management.

    Inventory and Asset Management:

    • Conduct periodic asset verification.
    • Account for construction materials.
    • Monitor inventory transactions.
    • Reconcile inventory records.

Qualifications and Requirements
Education and Certifications:

  • ACA, ACCA, ICAN, or ANAN certification is highly preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Master's degree or MBA is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Experience with project accounting and cost control.
  • Knowledge of construction contracts and project costing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP systems).
