Job Title: Manager, Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I)

Location: Ibadan, Oyo
Department/Function: Electrical, Instrumentation & Automation Services
Reporting To: Chief Engineer / Production Manager

Job Summary

  • The Manager, Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and optimization of all electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems across the Refinery, Solvent Extraction, Utilities, and Packaging facilities.
  • The role requires strong expertise in automation troubleshooting, electrical maintenance, process control systems, and plant reliability management to ensure uninterrupted production and operational efficiency.
  • The successful candidate will lead preventive and breakdown maintenance activities, support automation improvements, manage plant electrical infrastructure, and drive compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
Automation & Control Systems:

  • Support PLC programming modifications, interlock logic verification, and process optimization initiatives.
  • Ensure maximum uptime of automation systems to maintain process continuity and operational efficiency.
  • Perform root cause analysis and troubleshooting of automation failures involving PLCs, SCADA systems, sensors, transmitters, analyzers, instrumentation devices, and control loops.
  • Review and interpret PLC wiring diagrams, loop drawings, automation architecture, and SCADA configurations.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults in PLC hardware/software, I/O modules, communication networks, and SCADA alarm systems.

Electrical Maintenance & Reliability:

  • Monitor equipment performance and implement improvement plans to enhance plant reliability.
  • Coordinate testing, commissioning, and startup of electrical, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Ensure the reliable operation of MCCs, PCCs, transformers, HT/LT panels, VFDs, switchgear, and power distribution systems.
  • Manage preventive, predictive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance activities for electrical and automation equipment.

Engineering & Technical Support:

  • Participate in installation, erection, testing, and commissioning of new systems and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Utilize AutoCAD Electrical to read, interpret, and update engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Support plant expansion projects, shutdown activities, and equipment upgrades.

Spare Parts & Inventory Management:

  • Monitor stock levels and ensure timely procurement of essential maintenance materials.
  • Develop and maintain critical spare parts inventory for PLCs, transmitters, sensors, drives, and instrumentation equipment.

Team Leadership & Compliance:

  • Enforce adherence to plant safety procedures, electrical standards, and operational best practices.
  • Lead, train, and mentor maintenance technicians on automation troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, and electrical safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Nigerian regulatory requirements and company health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA, and industrial automation systems such as Siemens, Allen Bradley, Schneider Electric, and similar platforms.
  • Hands-on experience in troubleshooting automation systems and process control equipment.

Good understanding of:

  • Transformers and switchgear
  • HT/LT electrical panels
  • Industrial instrumentation and control systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
  • MCC and PCC systems

Experience:

  • Experience in erection, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical and automation systems.
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance within:
    • Edible Oil Refineries
    • Solvent Extraction Plants
    • Breweries or Similar Process Industries
    • Food Processing Industries
    • FMCG Manufacturing
  • Demonstrated expertise in automation troubleshooting during normal operations and plant shutdowns.
  • Exposure to:
    • Packaging Line Automation
    • Boiler Control Systems
    • Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP)
    • Water Treatment Plants (WTP)
    • Diesel Generator (DG) Sets
    • Gas Power Plants

Preferred Candidate Profile:

  • Maximum age: 35 years
  • Results-oriented with a strong focus on reliability, safety, and operational excellence.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to plant emergencies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
