We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Environmental & Social Governance (ESG) Manager

Location: Lagos
Job type: Full-time
Zip/Postal Code: 101245

The Problem We’re Solving

  • Governance Reporting: Takes too long. Depends on people who stop to research things they should already know cold.
  • We need someone who already knows 70% of the answers — and builds systems so the other 30% never needs solving twice.
  • Our ESG story isn’t being told with the rigour our investors demand. Three blind spots are holding us back:
  • Environmental Footprint: Not fully mapped. Soil health, water use, and input impact remain unstructured at scale.
  • Social Metrics: Scattered. Smallholder welfare and livelihood data lacks the structure our investors and donors expect.

Outcomes We Need

  • Be the internal ESG intelligence resource — the person others come to for answers.
  • Develop environmental metrics grounded in what’s measurable: soil, water, inputs.
  • Build ESG data infrastructure from field ops, finance & delivery — no manual chasing.
  • Lead smallholder welfare tracking: livelihoods, gender inclusion, community impact.
  • Stay ahead of Nigerian ESG regulations + frameworks (GRI, SASB, SDG alignment).
  • Own investor and donor ESG reporting end-to-end — independently, accurately, on time.

What Success Looks Like: First 90 Days
30 Days — Understand:

  • Key stakeholders + 2 investor counterparts met.
  • Prioritised problem map delivered.
  • Full ESG gap audit across all three pillars.
  • Know exactly where Babban Gona is exposed.

60 Days — Engage:

  • All ESG data flows mapped; missing ones flagged.
  • First independent investor ESG response submitted.
  • Two highest-risk reporting gaps + closure plan.

90 Days — Structure:

  • Reporting timelines shortened measurably.
  • Working ESG framework live with clear data ownership.
  • Function has moved from reactive to structured.
  • Investor queries handled with confidence.

Requirements
Who We’re Looking For:

  • Not waiting to be told what to do.
  • Doesn’t Google the basics.

  • Makes well-reasoned calls and documents the thinking.
  • Knows Nigerian ESG regulations cold.
  • Understands smallholder farmers are the mission.
  • Speaks DFI and impact investor language without coaching.
  • Sees a gap and closes it.
  • Built ESG frameworks from scratch.
  • Created structure where there wasn’t any.
  • Worked in agri, NGO or impact finance.
  • Operates in the grey.
