Dragnet Solutions Limited - Our client, a reputable multi-specialist hospital, is recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Consultant, Paediatrics

Location: Abuja

About the role

  • The Consultant provides senior clinical expertise, supervises and trains junior medical staff, and contributes to the clinical standards and governance of the paediatrics service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, teach and support the training and development of senior medical officers, medical officers and trainees.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and patient-safety activities.
  • Coordinate care with other specialties, diagnostics, pharmacy, nursing, allied health and managed-care/HMO functions, applying evidence-based, cost-effective practice.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records and current MDCN registration/licence in line with internal clinical policy.
  • Provide specialist assessment, diagnosis and management of patients in paediatrics, including complex cases, and act as a senior point of referral for junior medical staff.

Requirements
Education:

  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS or MBChB) from a recognised institution. A registrable postgraduate specialist qualification (Fellowship) in the relevant discipline.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of post-fellowship specialist experience in the relevant discipline. Post-fellowship specialist experience, or equivalent recognised consultant-level practice in the relevant discipline.

Required skills:

  • Ability to manage complex cases and to provide senior clinical judgement.
  • Sound clinical record-keeping and competent use of hospital clinical systems.
  • Sound understanding of clinical governance, audit, patient safety and evidence-based practice.
  • Demonstrable competence in the independent specialist management of complex cases in paediatrics.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver paediatrics services in a hospital setting.
  • Comprehensive specialist knowledge of paediatrics across a broad range of acute and chronic presentations.
  • Experience contributing to clinical audit, quality improvement, morbidity/mortality review, patient-safety activities or service improvement within paediatrics.
  • Ability to teach, supervise and support the development of junior medical staff.
  • Effective communication with patients, families and colleagues.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in a multi-specialist hospital, corporate hospital network, HMO-facing health system, public-sector hospital or large institutional healthcare environment.
  • Membership of relevant specialty associations or faculties.
  • Further postgraduate qualifications in a clinical sub-specialty, public health, health administration or management.
