Dragnet Solutions Limited - Our client, Lafarge Africa Plc, is recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Quality Assurance Chemist

Location: Sagamu, Ogun
Employment Type: Full-time

About the Role

  • To ensure the testing of all chemical parameters of the raw materials, fuels, intermediate / finished products & contemporary brands according to the Nigerian Industrial Standards.

Responsibilities

  • To carry out all chemical tests of cement according to NIS specifications.
  • To undertake analyses of all other samples (special or non-routine samples) as may be demanded from time-to –time by the Quality Coordinator & the Quality Manager.
  • To supervise the sampling and undertake the analysis of all delivered fuels to the quarry, plant & the Calabar Grinding Station.
  • To undertake periodic granulometry testing of crushed materials from crushers 1 & 2 and the additive crusher.
  • To undertake simple routine maintenance for all equipments in the Chemical & Sample Preparation Labs and to maintain such maintenance records.
  • To monitor raw mix quality indicators (LSF, SM and AM and their standard deviations and ensure compliance with production and process requirement.
  • To maintain and update inventories for all equipments, spares, chemicals, materials, instruments and any other items as may belong to the Quality Assurance & Control Department.
  • To follow up with routine quarry blasting operations, through the collection of blast hole samples and analysis and necessary recommendations.
  • To undertake supervisory role in the Chemical & Sample Preparation laboratories with respect to co-ordinating the personnels, equipments & processes.
  • To supervise the sampling and undertake the analysis of all raw materials (quarried and received).
  • To be totally compliant with all safety rules, procedures & policies and work safely at all times by using all relevant PPEs for each job.
  • To monitor the reliability of all QA&C equipment, track their usage and follow up with necessary maintenance actions required.
  • To update & preserve all test records in hard copy and in electronic forms.
  • To follow up with the daily raw mix production, projecting CBS visibility reports and correctives set point expected in raw meal production.
  • To report stock levels regularly to the Quality Coordinator and follow up the entire process with the procurement dept to ensure prompt deliveries as soon as Order Requests (ORs) are raised and approved.
  • To be available and prepared at all times to work in the process control function by executing duties as a Shift Chemist or as may be required by the Quality Coordinator and or the Quality Manager.
  • To carry out any other duty / assignment or work in any function as may be required due to job demands and or emerging circumstances by the Quality Coordinator or the Quality Manager.
  • To call for and support maintenance teams during corrective / preventive maintenance of all laboratory equipments.

Requirements
Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Natural / Physical / Applied sciences or Chemical Engineering.

Experience:

  • Previous experience as one of the following: an Assistant Shift Chemist and Quality Assurance Chemist within the Organization; a Chemist in any cement manufacturing company or Quality Assurance in any Manufacturing Laboratory.

Required Skills:

  • Able to take initiative based on sound problem-solving skills.
  • High proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point.
  • Good knowledge of cement manufacturing process.
  • Good knowledge of product quality parameters and quality control tests.
  • Ability to perform chemical analyses with both classical and modern methods.
