Job Summary

  • Purpose of the Role Provides the daily independent check on the bank's operations — calling over transactions, testing controls, counting cash and flagging exceptions — so errors and fraud are caught early and depositor funds stay safe.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support external auditors and CBN examiners; follow up implementation of their recommendations.
  • Spot-check thrift collectors' remittances against app records; periodically visit routes to confirm customers' balances.
  • Test operational controls: dual custody, password discipline, mandate verification, cheque handling.
  • Verify new loans disbursed: documentation completeness, approvals within limits, and adherence to credit policy.
  • Conduct surprise till and vault cash counts (at least weekly, and randomly).
  • Investigate fraud alerts, shortages and policy breaches; document findings with evidence.
  • Call over 100% of the previous day's transaction tickets against system postings each morning; raise exceptions immediately.
  • Issue daily/weekly exception reports to the MD and track closure of every finding.
  • Review GL, suspense and income accounts for unusual entries or ageing items.
  • Branch Controllers (from Dec): replicate these controls at new locations/units.

Requirements

  • Educational Qualification: B.Sc / HND in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Economics or related field.
  • Experience Required: 3-5 years in internal control, internal audit or banking operations in a financial institution. Understanding of MFB processes and CBN prudential requirements essential.
  • Professional Certification: ICAN/ACCA (qualified or part-qualified) or CIA an advantage; CIBN MCP desirable.

Technical / Job Skills:

  • Call-over of transactions; control testing and spot checks; cash count procedures; GL/suspense account review; fraud detection and Excellent analytical and investigative skills, High ethical standards, integrity, and attention to detail, report writing; audit working papers; strong Excel; core banking report extraction.

Soft Skills & Attributes:

  • Independence and courage to report findings; scepticism and attention to detail; discretion; firm but fair engagement with colleagues; strong documentation habits.The ability to speak igbo is an added advantage.

Salary
N300,000 - N400,000 per month.
