Job Title: Engineering Supervisor

Supervises: Installation Engineers, Service Engineers, Technicians, and Subcontractors

Job Summary

  • Due to continued business expansion, BlueWave is recruiting an experienced and technically capable Engineering Supervisor to lead installation, commissioning, maintenance, and technical-support activities.

Main Objective

  • Ensure every project is correctly designed, safely installed, properly commissioned, and delivered on time
  • This is a technical leadership position. The Engineering Supervisor must be able to supervise people and independently solve complex electrical, inverter, battery, and solar-system problems.

Key Responsibilities
Site Survey and Technical Assessment:

  • Assess roof area, shading, equipment location, ventilation, cable routes, earthing, fire safety, and installation risks.
  • Confirm whether the proposed system can support the customer’s actual operating requirements.
  • Prepare complete site-survey reports, photographs, load schedules, and engineering recommendations.
  • Measure and record single-phase and three-phase voltage, current, load, power factor, and operating conditions.
  • Review electricity bills, generator capacity, diesel consumption, existing inverters, batteries, and solar systems.
  • Conduct technical site surveys for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
  • Identify the customer’s critical loads, non-critical loads, maximum concurrent load, and starting-surge requirements.

System Design and Equipment Selection:

  • Select the correct:
    • AC and DC cable sizes
    • Battery capacity
    • Inverter or PCS capacity
    • Solar PV capacity
    • Battery configuration
    • PV string configuration
    • MCCB, MCB, RCBO, SPD, fuse, isolator, ATS, and protection devices
  • Distribution board, combiner box, busbar, and earthing system
  • Design residential and commercial solar and energy-storage systems.
  • Ensure the proposed solution can be safely expanded in the future.
  • Design sequential-starting or load-shedding arrangements where necessary.
  • Calculate maximum concurrent load instead of simply adding all installed equipment.
  • Consider air-conditioner, refrigerator, pump, compressor, motor, and elevator starting current.
  • Review single-phase, three-phase, parallel-inverter, and phase-balancing requirements.

Installation Supervision:

  • Prepare installation plans, manpower requirements, tools, materials, and project timelines.
  • Prevent unsafe temporary connections and unapproved modifications.
  • Supervise solar panels, inverters, batteries, distribution boards, protection devices, cables, and earthing installations.
  • Assign engineers and technicians to installation projects.
  • Confirm correct polarity, phase sequence, torque, battery communication, and equipment settings.
  • Check all work before the system is energized.
  • Ensure all cables are correctly sized, terminated, labelled, supported, and protected.
  • Stop any unsafe or technically incorrect installation immediately.
  • Ensure subcontractors follow BlueWave drawings, standards, and safety requirements.

System Commissioning:

  • Train customers on system operation, safety, and basic fault response.
  • Complete and sign commissioning checklists before handover.
  • Test the system under realistic customer loads.
  • Confirm that the system can support expected continuous and starting loads.
  • Verify:
    • Inverter output
    • Battery charging and discharging
    • Solar PV input
    • Grid input
    • Load transfer
    • Protection settings
    • Generator input
    • Communication between inverter, battery, BMS, and EMS
    • ATS and bypass operation
    • Backup operation
    • Remote monitoring
    • Emergency shutdown
  • Record voltage, current, frequency, power, battery SOC, charging power, and operating results.
  • Lead the testing and commissioning of completed systems.

Fault Diagnosis and Technical Support:

  • Provide remote technical guidance to engineers where appropriate.
  • Review fault codes, system logs, electrical measurements, wiring, and equipment settings.
  • Ensure customer complaints are resolved within the agreed service time.
  • Prepare technical fault reports and corrective-action plans.
  • Attend customer sites when problems cannot be resolved remotely.
  • Diagnose faults involving:

    • Inverters
    • Solar PV strings
    • Lithium batteries
    • Remote-monitoring systems
    • Grid and generator input
    • ATS and bypass systems
    • Charging and discharging problems
    • BMS communication
    • Earth faults
    • Voltage imbalance
    • Overload and short-circuit protection
  • Identify the root cause of each fault instead of repeatedly replacing parts without proper diagnosis.

Engineering Team Management:

  • Supervise installation engineers, service engineers, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Train engineers on new products, installation standards, fault diagnosis, and safety.
  • Build a culture of responsibility, quality, safety, and problem resolution.
  • Assign daily and weekly work based on priority, competence, and location.
  • Identify performance gaps and recommend retraining or disciplinary action.
  • Conduct daily technical briefings and weekly performance reviews.
  • Ensure engineers do not leave a customer’s site without completing required tests and documentation.
  • Evaluate the technical competence of engineering staff.
  • Review job reports, site photographs, material usage, and customer feedback.

Project Quality Control:
The Engineering Supervisor must inspect and approve every major project stage:

  • Site survey
  • Installation
  • Post-installation inspection
  • Customer handover
  • Electrical testing
  • Commissioning
  • System design
  • Material preparation

The supervisor must ensure:

  • All defects are corrected before customer handover.
  • The installed system matches the approved design.
  • Batteries and inverters are properly configured.
  • No unauthorized materials are used.
  • The installation is neat, safe, labelled, and serviceable.
  • Cable sizes are suitable for the current and installation distance.
  • Protection devices are correctly selected.

Safety Management:

  • Confirm that fire extinguishers and emergency procedures are available where required.
  • Enforce electrical and workplace safety requirements.
  • Ensure lithium batteries are installed in suitable, ventilated, secure, and protected locations.
  • Ensure safe ladder, roof, battery, cable, and lifting practices.
  • Ensure engineers use appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and equipment damage.
  • Enforce lockout, isolation, and testing procedures before electrical work.
  • Conduct risk assessments before installation.
  • Prevent live work except where formally authorized and properly controlled.

Materials and Tools Control:

  • Prevent material wastage, unauthorized substitution, and theft.
  • Report defective products with proper technical evidence.
  • Track materials issued, used, returned, damaged, or missing.
  • Ensure engineers use the correct tools and testing equipment.
  • Coordinate with the warehouse and procurement teams to avoid project delays.
  • Confirm required materials before engineers leave for the site.
  • Prepare accurate bills of materials for installations.

Engineering Documentation:
The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that every project has:

  • Site-survey report
  • Single-line diagram
  • Customer load-assessment form
  • Customer handover form
  • Installation checklist
  • All technical records must be complete, accurate, and submitted on time.

Qualification Requirements
Education:

  • Relevant professional or technical certification will be an advantage.
  • HND or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Power Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related technical discipline.

Experience:

  • Experience with large commercial or industrial energy-storage systems is strongly preferred.
  • At least two years of experience supervising engineers, technicians, or installation teams.
  • Proven experience delivering residential and commercial projects.
  • At least five years of practical electrical, solar, inverter, battery, or energy-storage experience.

Mandatory Technical Competence:
The candidate must have practical knowledge of:

  • AC and DC distribution systems
  • Load assessment and maximum-demand calculation
  • 220/230V and 380/400/415V systems
  • Electrical drawings and single-line diagrams
