We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Customs Specialist (Procurement Import)

Location: Nigeria

Job Description

  • As the Customs Specialist, you will play a critical role in managing all import and export processes within the business.
  • You will serve as the single point of contact for importation activities, ensuring seamless coordination across procurement and other functions.
  • You will drive efficient customs clearance, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support procurement operations to deliver on Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Key Business Indicators (KBIs).
  • This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration, operational excellence, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement in import processes.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Managing end-to-end importation processes to ensure timely clearance and delivery
  • Maintaining shipment tracking systems and providing regular updates
  • Leading review sessions with clearing agents and monitor shipment status
  • Preparing and maintaining all import-related reports (pre- and post-clearance)
  • Analyze clearing efficiency KPIs and manage demurrage costs
  • Ensure timely renewal and availability of all import permits (e.g., SON, NAFDAC, NEPC, etc.)
  • Manage relationships with all clearing stakeholders (shipping lines, terminals, agents, regulatory bodies)
  • Escalate issues promptly and ensure reconciliation and refund processes are completed
  • Drive effective collaboration between procurement and key stakeholders
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities in import operations
  • Train and support internal teams on customs procedures and international trade
  • Support implementation of new systems and process improvements
  • Drive automation and digitalization of import processes

Requirements

  • Minimum of University Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Legal, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in import/export, procurement, or supply chain operations
  • Master’s degree or MBA is an added advantage
  • Professional certification in Procurement (e.g., CIPS) is preferred
  • Strong experience working with SAP or other ERP systems (Purchasing focus)
  • Experience in a cross-cultural and matrix organization is an advantage
  • Fluency in English (additional regional language is a plus)
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Results-driven with a strong customer focus and ability to develop others.
