Job Title: Nutrition and Health Assistant

Job Description

• Working closely with the Nutrition team and communicate stakeholders, the role will contribute to the effective delivery of program activities, ensure accurate beneficiary data management, and support monitoring and reporting processes to enhance programme quality and impact.
• We are currently recruiting for the position of a Nutrition and Health Assistant based in Maiduguri.
• The Nutrition and Health Assistant will support the implementation of community-based nutrition and health activities, with a particular focus on beneficiary mobilization, data collection, documentation and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with community structures to follow up on the implementation of the porridge mum (Infant Young Child Feeding (IYCF) activities, cooking demonstration, MUAC screening, hygiene promotion and complementary feeding with the support from the Nutrition Officer;
• Mobilize porridge mum beneficiaries with support from the community nutrition mobilizers during disbursement;
• Prepare and submit weekly/monthly summaries of all nutrition information captured;
• Support the development of banners and placement;
• Participate in local coordination meetings as required;
• Support the M&E team in data collection for screening, PDMs, KAP surveys or other nutrition-related assessments;
• Supervise routine MUAC screenings by CNMs;
• Using approved tools, document all referrals and follow-up information of all children with MAM;
• Participate in sensitization meetings with vendors before each disbursement;
• Organize and participate in community sensitization meetings including community entry meetings, feedback meetings with stakeholders, community nutrition mobilizers etc.
• Maintain a database of all porridge mom beneficiaries and update regularly as needed.
• Ensure proper documentation of all activities and prepare/share monthly reports on porridge activities;
• Supervise activities of CHIPS agents/CVs.
• Oversee and maintain constructed porridge mom kitchens to ensure they are in good condition and used appropriately;

Additional Responsibilities:

• Conduct all duties in a professional manner following ACF Nigeria mission staff regulations, ACF mandate and charter including promotion of gender equality.
• Maintenance of high technical standards.

Position Requirements

• Ability to observe and to provide feedback on the activities;
• Good communication and Interpersonal skills;
• Fluent in written and spoken English, Hausa and Kanuri;
• Minimum of one (1) years’ experience in Nutrition programming;
• Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions;
• Proficient in Microsoft tools like word, excel etc;
• Commitment to and understanding of ACF’s aims, values and principles;
• Diploma in Public Health, Nutrition, Dietetics, Food science, or other relevant qualifications with experience in Nutrition programming especially at community level;
