We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Kitchen Cook

Location: Benin City, Edo
Employment Type: Full-time

Job Summary

  • The kitchen cook is responsible for preparing and cooking nutritious, safe, and hygienic meals for patients, staff, and visitors in accordance with medical dietary requirements and hospital standards.
  • The role ensures strict adherence to food safety regulations while supporting patient recovery through proper nutrition.

Key Responsibilities
Food Preparation & Cooking:

  • Prepare and cook meals based on approved menus and dietary plans.
  • Follow specific instructions for therapeutic diets (e.g., low-sodium, diabetic, soft diets).
  • Ensure meals are cooked to the correct temperature, taste, and presentation standards.

Dietary Compliance:

  • Work closely with the dietitian to understand patients’ nutritional needs.
  • Accurately portion meals according to dietary prescriptions.
  • Label and serve meals correctly to avoid dietary errors.

Hygiene & Food Safety:

  • Follow food safety regulations, including proper storage, handling, and preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines .
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen at all times.

Inventory & Stock Control:

  • Ensure proper storage of ingredients to prevent spoilage and contamination.
  • Participate in stock rotation (FIFO – First In, First Out).
  • Assist in monitoring food supplies and reporting shortages.

Kitchen Operations:

  • Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Support general kitchen duties, including dishwashing and waste disposal.

Patient:

  • Maintain professionalism and empathy when interacting with hospital staff and patients.
  • Ensure timely meal preparation and delivery to wards.
  • Adapt meals when required based on patient feedback or medical changes.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Minimum of SSCE, First School Leaving Certificate, Neco, or OND
  • At least 3–5years of cooking experience.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Physical stamina to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Ability to follow dietary instructions accurately.
  • Teamwork and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, especially in meal preparation.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
