Job Title: Branch Manager (Banking)

Location: Makurdi, Benue

Job Description

  • The role requires a commercially driven, operationally sound, and leadership-oriented professional capable of building branch structures, driving profitability, managing teams, and positioning the branch as a high-performing business hub from inception.
  • The successful candidate will lead branch growth initiatives, deposit mobilization, customer acquisition, lending activities, operational supervision, and service delivery while establishing strong operational controls and regulatory compliance standards.
  • The role is responsible for building, managing, and driving the overall business, operational, customer service, and commercial performance of the Bank’s branch operations within a fintech-driven digital microfinance bank.
  • The ideal candidate must be proactive, execution-focused, and capable of independently driving branch growth, operational discipline, and market expansion without requiring constant supervision.

Responsibilities
Branch Business Development & Deposit Mobilization:

  • Lead branch sales campaigns and achieve assigned business targets and KPIs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with individuals, SMEs, corporate clients, associations, and high-net-worth customers.
  • Drive aggressive deposit mobilization and liability generation initiatives for the branch.
  • Promote all Bank products and digital banking solutions within the branch catchment area.
  • Identify new market opportunities and drive customer acquisition initiatives.
  • Develop and execute branch business development strategies to grow customer base and market share.
  • Mobilize savings accounts, current accounts, fixed deposits, and investment products.

Branch Operations Management:

  • Maintain strong maker-checker and operational control frameworks.
  • Supervise teller operations, cash management, transaction processing, and customer service activities.
  • Monitor operational processes to minimize errors, fraud, and operational losses.
  • Ensure timely resolution of customer complaints and operational issues.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the branch, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and service excellence.
  • Ensure proper cash balancing, vault management, and operational controls.

Credit & Lending Supervision:

  • Monitor portfolio quality, delinquency trends, and repayment performance.
  • Support recovery strategies and delinquency management initiatives.
  • Ensure proper credit documentation and compliance with lending policies.
  • Drive quality loan portfolio growth within approved risk parameters.
  • Supervise loan origination, appraisal, monitoring, and recovery activities.

Customer Relationship Management:

  • Deliver exceptional customer experience and service standards.
  • Resolve customer issues promptly and professionally.
  • Build long-term customer relationships to improve retention and cross-selling opportunities.
  • Promote customer trust and confidence in the Bank’s services.

Team Leadership & Staff Management:

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate branch staff to achieve business and operational objectives.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training of branch personnel where required.
  • Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, discipline, and customer service excellence.
  • Conduct staff coaching, mentoring, and performance management activities.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Ensure proper documentation, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure full compliance with CBN regulations, internal policies, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices within the branch.
  • Support internal audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory examinations.
  • Monitor suspicious transactions, fraud risks, and operational irregularities.

Branch Administration & Reporting:

  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly branch performance reports.
  • Monitor branch profitability, operational efficiency, and financial performance.
  • Provide business insights and recommendations to Executive Management.
  • Track branch KPIs including deposits, loans, customer growth, and operational performance.
  • Oversee branch administration, facilities, security, and asset management.

Branch Setup & Market Expansion:

  • Drive visibility and market penetration within the branch location.
  • Support the establishment and growth of the branch structure from inception.
  • Build operational processes, workflows, and branch service frameworks.
  • Represent the Bank within the local business community and market environment.

Education

  • Professional banking certifications such as ACIB, MCIB, or related certifications will be an advantage.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Banking & Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting, Marketing, or related discipline.
  • MBA or postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.

Experience:

  • Experience in startup or fast-growth environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong experience in deposit mobilization, customer acquisition, branch operations, and loan portfolio management.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years experience in branch management, business development, operations, or retail banking leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of CBN regulations, microfinance banking operations, and retail banking practices.
  • Proven ability to drive business growth and profitability targets.
  • Minimum of 6–10 years experience in banking, microfinance banking, fintech, or financial services.
