Christian Miracle Hospital is an NHIS-accredited fibroid, ovarian cyst, appendicitis and maternity hospital in Nigeria; established in 1992. We are located at No. 3 Akutu Crescent office Pascan Jake bus stop opposite Pine Crest School Enugu,Independence Layout Enugu state. We offer the best gynaecological, fertility and maternity services to our clients and patients. Our in-house laboratory is quality assured, and our dispensary stocks quality drugs and other medical consumables. We run antenatal clinics and fertility clinics every Tuesday.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Competent Medical Lab Scientist

Location: Enugu

Core Duties & Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations:

  • Assist in NHIS claims documentation and ensure proper record management for laboratory services.
  • Ensure patients are comfortable, explain laboratory procedures clearly, and position patients appropriately for sample collection.
  • Provide clear and courteous communication of results to clinicians and patients while supporting patient education regarding diagnostic investigations.
  • Prepare accurate laboratory reports and promptly communicate critical results to medical staff.
  • Participate in internal quality control (QC) and external quality assurance programs while maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation.
  • Manage laboratory inventory, reagent procurement, supplier relationships, and equipment maintenance to ensure uninterrupted operations and cost-effective service delivery.
  • Maintain strict quality control standards, equipment calibration schedules, and infection prevention protocols.
  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests including hematology, biochemistry, microbiology, parasitology, serology, histopathology, pregnancy tests, and blood banking procedures.
  • Ensure rapid turnaround times (TAT) for routine and high-impact investigations including antenatal, pre-operative, and emergency tests.

Specialized Laboratory Functions:
Hematology & Blood Transfusion Science:

  • Maintain safe blood storage conditions at 2°C–6°C in compliance with blood banking standards.
  • Carry out blood grouping, cross-matching, compatibility testing, and Coombs testing.
  • Perform Complete Blood Count (CBC), PCV/Hematocrit, ESR, and coagulation profiles including PT and APTT.
  • Conduct Hemoglobin Electrophoresis for genotype screening (AA, AS, SS, etc.).
  • Ensure strict donor screening for HIV, HBV, HCV, Syphilis, and Malaria.

Medical Microbiology & Parasitology:

  • Ensure accurate detection and reporting of infectious diseases relevant to antenatal and gynecological care.
  • Conduct malaria parasite identification using microscopy and rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs).
  • Carry out High Vaginal Swab (HVS), Endocervical Swab (ECS), urine MCS, and stool analysis.
  • Perform Widal tests, blood/stool/urine culture and sensitivity investigations.

Clinical Chemistry / Biochemistry:

  • Perform blood glucose tests, lipid profile, electrolytes, urea, and creatinine (EUC).
  • Support monitoring and diagnosis of gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and other pregnancy-related conditions.
  • Conduct Liver Function Tests (LFT), Oral Glucose Tolerance Tests (OGTT), HbA1c, and Serum Beta-hCG tests.

Serology & Immunology:

  • Ensure compliance with antenatal and pre-surgical screening protocols.
  • Conduct routine screening tests including HIV, HBsAg, HCV, and Syphilis (VDRL/RPR).
  • Perform specialized screening including Rubella IgM/IgG and Toxoplasmosis testing.

Histopathology & Cytology:

  • Support tissue biopsy processing including endometrial biopsy, fibroid samples, and products of conception.
  • Conduct Pap smear analysis for cervical cancer screening.

Business Development & Patient Services:

  • Conduct monthly health screening outreaches within corporate organizations, churches, and community centers.
  • Generate a minimum of 10 new patient referrals monthly through professional networks, physician relationships, and community engagement.
  • Promote wellness checkup packages and additional screening opportunities to patients where appropriate.
  • Recommend high-value and high-margin laboratory investigations to expand the hospital’s diagnostic service offerings.
  • Maintain strong relationships with referring physicians and healthcare providers to ensure consistent patient flow.
  • Ensure fast turnaround times to strengthen the hospital’s reputation for quality and efficient diagnostic services.
  • Participate in hospital marketing campaigns and promotional activities.
  • Provide health education on preventive care, disease management, and routine health screening.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • 100% compliance with equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Test accuracy rate of at least 99.5%.
  • Laboratory consumable cost management within 5% of approved budget.
  • Minimum of 10 new patient referrals generated monthly.
  • Patient satisfaction rating of at least 4.6/5.0.
  • Routine test turnaround time within 2 hours.
  • Participation in community screening programs with a minimum of 200 tests monthly.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited Nigerian university.
  • Current registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
  • Minimum of two (2) years practical experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
  • Relevant certifications in specialized laboratory areas such as hematology or microbiology are an advantage.
